Tanya Godsey is a Singer-Songwriter, Speaker, Founder of Redeeming The Story and Spiritual Formation Director for Freedom Movement. She is in that seemingly small family of Artists who are gifted and called to function as rare hybrids. As both a Shepherd and a creative conduit Tanya shares stories and truth, whether musical or spoken, with a heart for life transformation. Whether in an intimate retreat setting, a large conference environment or a one on one session, Tanya's deepest desire is to facilitate a lasting spiritual deposit in the heart of those who have ears to hear.
Her music, stories and heart were deeply formed in the Immigrant Church she was raised in. As a Pastor's daughter in this formative environment she was immersed in life-on-life biblical expressions of the real Jesus and the real Gospel. This was a place where the hungry were fed, the lonely were placed in families, the homeless were given a home and the love of Jesus was more than just a Sunday school lesson; it was a lifestyle. Little did Tanya know that this kind of beautifully hidden first hand Gospel immersion in an obscure Texas town would eventually lead to an unlikely opportunity to answer a broader call years later when music industry executives discovered her music and invited her to Nashville.
Now 20+ years later, Tanya has recorded and released four critically acclaimed albums while delivering her songs and stories through various multi-state tours. Her original music has been licensed around the world and streamed in 113 countries. She is also the host of The Unforced Gifts podcast, available on all streaming platforms. Tanya is an ordained Minister and holds a BA in Psychology with an emphasis in Christian Counseling from Dallas Baptist University.
Tanya feels especially passionate about stewarding the message that God often calls unlikely people from unlikely places to be a part of His beautiful redemptive work in the world. This truth is well documented through scripture. God loves the underdog; from Abraham and Sarah to Moses...from Joseph to David and Mary the mother of Jesus. The list goes on and on revealing that God is not looking for pedigree or popularity. God is looking at heart posture and where there is availability and humility, there is a place for ALL of us in the story of redemption God is writing.
Tanya is a strong believer in the local church. So when possible she also serves at her home church as a worship leader. She has been married to her husband Jake for 20 years and together they have two beautiful children. When life is simple Tanya enjoys exploring the Coast of California with her family, good Tex-Mex food, beautiful films, deep belly laughs and all forms of the wonder of God's Creation.
